(Illex illecebrosus)

Almennt

ENGLISH

Illex illecebrosus (Le Sueur, 1821)

Mantle length up to 340 mm. Distributed in low boreal to temperate waters of the western Atlantic, along the North American shores. Normally it is restricted to that range only, but in some years foraging shoals occasionally enter the waters south of Greenland, Baffin Island and Iceland. It is an epi- and mesopelagic neritic species. The species has been a valuable source for fisheries, and its biology is well studied. The species was not found during BIOICE program and no specimens are in the IINH collection.
