Muusoctopus aegir

This species has previously been reported as Benthoctopus piscatorum. Mantle length up to 52 mm. Differs mainly from othe Muusoctopus sp.in: 1) absence of stylets; 2) proportions in size of mantle and head; funnel organ morphology; 4) number of suckers and gill lamellae; 5) relative arm lenght and diameter of suckers; 6) male reproductive system morphology and relative size. 

M. aegir is a benthic species, recorded from 80 m to nearly 2.500m. Known distribution is from north off Iceland and along the slope of the continental shelf of Scandinavia, to Svalbard and then eastward to the Kara Sea.
