(Rossia palpebrosa)

Almennt

Rossia palpebrosa Owen, 1834

Mantle length up to 50 mm. Inhabits the Arctic and boreal Atlantic, with a nearly circumpolar distribution. It is a necto-benthic shelf and upper slope species, found down to 1300 m water depth. It is one of the most abundant cephalopods on the Arctic shelves, along with B. arcticus. Two forms of the species are recognized, one with papillae on the dorsal side of the mantle and head and the other smooth, without papillae. The smooth variety was recognized as a separate species, R. glaucopis, which is a synonym of R. palpebrosa.
