Pyrgoella irregularis (d'Orbigny, 1839)

Pyrgoella irregularis (d‘Orbigny 1839) – sensu  Jones, R.W., 1994. The Challenger Foraminifera, The Natural History Museum, London, Oxford Univ. Press, p.18, pl.1, figs.17-18.

Description: Test globular; the two last chambers are externally visible; the penultimate chamber covers only a small part of the surface (about 140° of the circumference in axial section). Chambers are added in planispirally in a single plane, except perhaps for the first couple of chambers following the embryonic apparatus. Chambers walls are thick and sturdy. Aperture is nearly filled with a flap, resulting in a high arched or semi-circular slit; apertural rim is raised, thickened and slightly protruding. Sutures are distinct and only slightly depressed. Surface is smooth, but may be somewhat irregularly wrinkled in the largest specimens.

Diagnosis: Resembles Pyrgoella sphaera, but differs in having much thicker test walls and a single aperture at all developmental stages.
