Brent goose monitoring

Brent goose monitoring

Brent geese breed in arctic regions of North America, Siberia, and Svalbard. Brent geese that breed in northeastern Canada pass through Iceland in spring and autumn on their way to and from their wintering grounds in the British Isles. Most spend the winter in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland.

The goal of this project is to monitor this population with seasonal bird counts in autumn and spring. Brent geese migrations have also been monitored with the help of satellite transmitters in collaboration with partners in the UK and Ireland, including the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT).
